A Japanese restaurant will take over a former coffee shop.

Kokoro has submitted a planning application to Worthing Borough Council to put signs up on the former Triple Two in Warwick Street.

The coffee shop opened in the town in 2021 and closed after the company went into administration in 2023.

Triple Two Coffee, part of the Cooks Coffee Company, was first established in 2016 with a flagship site in Swindon and grew to have ten sites across the South East and West, and one in Newport, Wales.

In 2020, the business joined the Cooks Coffee Company and, prior to the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, was experiencing strong growth.

But in October last year, its parent company confirmed that the business had been plunged into administration and that a liquidator had been appointed.

Kokoro was founded by Rak-Kyu Park just over a decade ago.

The franchise has more than 50 locations across the country including sites in Crawley, Brighton and Chichester.

Another addition to Warwick Street will be Gail's Bakery which is set to open soon at number 16.

The unit was formerly home to MasterChef winner Kenny Tutt’s now-defunct Pitch restaurant, which closed in July last year due to “current economic struggles”.

The closure came only a few months after the restaurateur closed his other Worthing restaurant Bayside Social on April 15 due to rising costs and the “long-lasting effects of Covid” on restaurants.

Last year, a statement of affairs filed by Pitch Foods Ltd showed the business went into liquidation owing more than £1 million.

Gail’s has bakeries in Church Road, Hove, Seven Dials, Brighton, North Road, Brighton, Carfax, Horsham and High Street, Lewes.
