Police officers remain outside a train station after a teenage girl was killed.
British Transport Police officers are continuing to investigate the alleged murder of a teenager after she was seen fighting with a man outside Crawley railway station on Sunday morning.
A 26-year-old man who was arrested nearby remains in custody.
A spokesman for the force said that Sussex Police officers were called to the train station in Station Way shortly after 7.10am on Sunday after reports of an altercation between a man and a woman.
Officers later located the woman, now confirmed to be in her late teens, with stab wounds in the station car park.
The woman was treated at the scene but died despite the best efforts of paramedics.
A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder near Three Bridges railway station yesterday morning.
Forensic officers remained in the town centre throughout Sunday with police guarding a bridge over the railway and a nearby walkway.
British Transport Police have taken over the investigation from Sussex Police.
BTP senior investigating officer Sam Blackburn said: “Our specialist family liaison officers are providing support to the victim’s family and our thoughts remain with them at this time.
“We are urging anyone with any information or anyone who witnessed events leading up to the woman’s death to get in touch with us.”
