Plans to convert a seven-storey block of offices into flats have been refused.

The proposals, put forward by M J Prime Property, were to turn Turnpike House in High Street, Crawley, into 64 one-bedroom flats.

These homes would be spread across five floors and would each have one bedroom, a bathroom, and an open-plan kitchen and living room area.

The two underground storeys would then be used for car parking.

The developer said the new flats would not have an adverse impact on travel conditions around the town, however Crawley Borough Council rejected the application for prior approval.

Council officers said this is because the developer did not provide evidence that there would be no highway impacts and did not demonstrate that the site would have the "appropriate amount" of parking spaces.

This includes cycle spaces, disabled car parking spaces, and EV charging spaces.

The council said that the applicant also provided no information about the provisions in place for refuse, recycling, and how refuse vehicles would access the site.

The plans were rejected on August 6.
