Thugs, burglars and a scheming husband who conspired to kill his own wife have been jailed this month.

Nine men were given prison sentences in July including a 20-year-old who stamped on a woman's head.

Another spat at hospital guards and threatened nurses who tried to help him.

Here are the thugs from Sussex who were jailed in July.

Robert Mansbridge and Craig Preston

Robert Mansbridge was a gardener at a house in Lindfield near Haywards Heath for 25 years, but together with accomplice Craig Preston he stole thousands of pounds worth of jewellery and personal items in May 2023.

But just a day after their crime, both were arrested after being found in a car with a large amount of the goods.

Preston, 42, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to the burglary while Mansbridge, 52, also of no fixed abode, was found guilty after a four-day trial. They were sentenced to three and four years in prison respectively.

Harvey Brackpool and Jason O’Dwyer

Brackpool and O’Dwyer were both arrested after police attended Mo Lin restaurant in Crawley following a break-in.

The two men entered the restaurant stealing multiple items including bank cards and cash.

Brackpool, 22, of no fixed abode admitted the burglary and was jailed for 42 weeks. O’Dwyer, 37, of Eastbourne Road in Halland, also pleaded guilty and was handed a suspended sentence.

Robert Donnalley

Robert Donnalley spat at hospital guards while extremely intoxicated through drug and alcohol use after nurses tried to help him.

The 31-year-old threatened nurses at St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester while they tried to help him and, after security guards were called, spat at them and assaulted them.

He pleaded guilty to common assault of an emergency worker and two counts of assault by beating an emergency worker. He was sentenced to ten weeks in prison.

Bill Harber and Joseph Brazil

Harber and Brazil, 22 and 19, carried out a spree of burglaries from farms and other rural locations across the South Coast, including in Rye and Bodiam.

The pair stole more than £44,000 worth of property as well as valuable vehicles in crimes in Sussex, Devon and Buckinghamshire among other locations.

Harber and Brazil, originally from Hertfordshire, were each imprisoned for two and a half years.

Halcyon Platt

Halcyon Platt stamped on a woman’s head after sexually assaulting another woman and grabbing her by the throat in a nightclub in West Street, Brighton.

Platt, 21, sexually assaulted a 20-year-old woman before attacking a second woman outside the club in October 1, throwing her to the ground and stamping on her head multiple times.

His victims said they “can’t go out without worrying about what will happen to me” and were “scared to go to sleep” after the attack.

Platt admitted attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and sexual assault. A charge of intentional strangulation was ordered to lay on file.

He was sentenced to 45 months in prison.

Allen Morgan

Allen Morgan planned to start a new life with his lover more than 40 years ago and plotted to kill his wife in their corner shop.

The 74-year-old was just 31 when he conspired to kill Carol Morgan in Linslade near Luton.

Now living in Woodingdean, the elderly man was charged with conspiring to kill Carol, 36, in 1981.

He was handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 22 years.
