A councillor said he was disappointed after a road sign was defaced with crude graffiti.
City councillor James Vivian was contacted by an outraged resident after road signs for Canal Place in Chichester had the first letter sprayed over with white graffiti – making the sign read “Anal Place”.
The Lib Dem councillor for Chichester Central said: “I was a bit disappointed.
“While you can always see the funny side of it, I’m happy to be the butt of the joke if it means highlighting the problem.
“Graffiti in Chichester is not as good as you would like from such a historic city. People are worried about crime and residents want clean, safe streets.”
Cllr Vivian said he was contacted by a resident and, after a visit to Canal Place, he posted a photo on Facebook pointing at the sign and highlighting the issue.
He contacted Chichester City Council and the graffiti has now been cleared.
