A main stage at Brighton Pride has been renamed as a tribute to a much-loved drag queen who died earlier this year.

The Cabaret Big Top stage at the Fabuloso music festival has been renamed Legends Presents The Miss Jason Cabaret Stage in honour of Miss Jason.

Hosted by Davina Sparkle and Cosmic, the stage features the very best of the UK’s LGBTQ+ cabaret scene.

Miss Jason was a beloved and well-respected drag queen, whose real name was Jason Sutton. Jason died in April aged 56 following a prolonged illness.

Many tributes poured in when the news of Jason’s passing was announced.

He entertained audiences for more than three decades and appeared on TV shows including BBC One’s The Weakest Link (Drag Queen Special), Channel 4’s Come Dine With Me, BBC One’s Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is and BBC One’s Blankety Blank.

Hundreds flooded the streets of Brighton to pay their respects at his funeral.

Paul Kemp director of Brighton Pride said: “Jason was a well-respected and much-loved member of the LGBTQ+ community both here in Brighton and across the UK and beyond, and we are delighted that when we suggested to Legends about dedicating this year’s cabaret big top in his name, they agreed wholeheartedly.

“We would like to thank Erica and the Legends Team for their hard work arranging such an amazing cabaret lineup every year. Legends has been a long-term supporter of Pride and each year has invested back into our community. We are truly grateful to them and for all their support over the years and are looking forward to a fantastic Pride weekend.”

Miss Jason was due to perform as Nurse Nellie in Sleeping Beauty this Christmas. The role will now be taken up by former chairman of Brighton Pride David Hill.

Jordan Langford the director of Sleeping Beauty said: "David's dedication to his craft and creative understanding of what audiences love about panto make him the perfect choice to carry on Jason's legacy."

Sleeping Beauty is taking place at The DoubleTree by Hilton Brighton Metropole between December 19 and December 30.
