An electric railway has been reopened after it partially derailed with passengers on board.

One of the trains on Volk's Electric Railway off Madeira Drive in Brighton partially derailed at around 2.30pm on July 30.

One passenger who was on board at the time, Emma Seers, said the incident was handled very well.

Brighton and Hove City Council now say the railway has been reopened following repairs to the track.

The council also confirmed no staff or passengers were injured.

Brighton and Hove City councillor Mitchie Alexander, acting cabinet member for culture, heritage and tourism, said: “Our team worked incredibly hard to quickly repair the track following the minor derailment earlier this week and it is brilliant to see our award-winning electric railway open and being enjoyed again by residents and visitors.

“The track has been thoroughly tested and the service is running as usual.

“I would like to thank people for their patience while these repairs took place and our team for their work in making sure the railway was not out of action for any longer than absolutely necessary.”

Volk's is the oldest operating electric railway in the world and won the title of railway of the year this year.
