A Sussex beach has been dubbed a disgrace by disgruntled visitors.

Climping Beach, between Littlehampton and Bognor, has been heavily criticised by beachgoers this year who say the area has been neglected.

Since January, a number of negative reviews have been left for the site on TripAdvisor, with one going as far as to say the beach is one of the worst they have ever visited.

One visitor said: "It used to be a nice quiet beach off the beaten track but now that it's been left for the sea to reclaim, it has a number of hazards including rusty metal bars. Very different to a year ago."

Another visitor wrote: "We hadn’t visited Climping beach for over a year but decided to stop off at this once lovely dog-friendly beach yesterday.

"We were amazed how deteriorated it had become. The flood defences are gone and what bollards have been put in place are being eroded by the sea and having little effect.

"The shingle was full of broken bits of rusty sharp metal, wire, netting and glass. We were constantly collecting rubbish so our dog would avoid it. Too much of a hazard for us so we left. Definitely not a dog-friendly beach any more."

One man from Haslemere said the site was similar to a warzone.

He wrote: "A bomb site. Probably the worst beach I have ever visited.

"Terrible parking, litter everywhere, sea defences have been totally destroyed... it's an absolute mess and a disgrace."

But other visitors praised the beach for being a quiet area.

In 2023, a man from Crawley said: "A great place to go if you want a quiet day by the sea, plenty of dog walking, best when the tide is out otherwise it is just a pebble path, as the sea has eroded the original path away.

"Parking is £10 for the day which isn't too expensive and there is a small café which is good for snacks and drinks."

A holidaymaker who visited this stretch of coast last year echoed the same sentiment.

They wrote: "Went here while on holiday. Found the beach down a little country Lane. Very pebbly.

"Tide out and beautiful sands. We took four dogs with us and it was fabulous for them. Very clean, quiet and stretches for miles."

Others shared pictures on social media to show they had a great time at the beach.

Climping beach currently has an average three-star rating on TripAdvisor.

It has been ranked as the main thing to do in the village for holidaymakers and visitors.
