The body of a man found on a busy Sussex beach during the hottest day of the year is yet to be identified.
Sussex Police and other emergency services swarmed Seaford Beach after beachgoers called 999 to report the body on the shoreline earlier this week - with coastguards holding up blankets to block the view from the public.
The beach remained closed throughout Tuesday as specialist police officers were spotted on the scene from around 11.30am.
Sussex Police have now said that officers are still working to identify the man and the circumstances surrounding his death.
As it happened: Emergency services at incident on busy Sussex beach
The force, at the time of the incident, said: "Emergency services were called to Seaford Beach at around 11.30am on July 30 after the body of a man found on the beach.
"Enquiries are ongoing, alongside partner agencies, to identify the man and establish the full circumstances of the situation.
"The beach is likely to remain closed for some time while this is ongoing and we thank the public for their patience and understanding."
Thousands of people packed the beach to make the most of the hot weather on Tuesday where temperatures soared as high as 28 degrees in Sussex.
