Police closed a road after a two-vehicle crash caused a horse box to block the carriageway.

The horse box was on its side on the A22 at Lower Dicker, near Hailsham, after the crash at around 2pm today.

Police officers, firefighters and ambulance crews were at the scene.

Sussex Police said only minor injuries were reported.

The road was closed temporarily for recovery and has since reopened.

A spokeswoman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 2.25pm two fire appliances an officer and an animal rescue unit were called to reports of a trapped animal following a road traffic collision on The Dicker, Lower Dicker.

"Fire crews assisted a vet in the extrication of a horse.

"The horse was successfully released and left in the care of the vet and crews left the scene at 3.33pm."
