A steak restaurant which is moving to a bigger site has revealed when it will open.

The Coal Shed in Boyce’s Street, Brighton, is relocating to North Street and will have space for 142 diners, almost tripling its capacity.

Its new site, called Clarence House, was due to open in the spring but will welcome diners from September.

The site will have a new menu with local produce which "expands on The Coal Shed’s fire-cooking techniques with beef" to demonstrate the depth of flavour that can be produced in other proteins, vegetables and vegan dishes.

The Coal Shed will also feature seafood, both raw and cooked over flames and a selection of oven-cooked breads and dishes.

Clarence House will also be home to one of Brighton’s first Himalayan salt-ageing rooms, The Salt Chamber.

This ancient technique is said to maximise flavours and aromas, while in-house ageing allows the kitchen to hand butcher beef to their exact requirements.

The Salt Chamber will showcase beef cuts from premium suppliers in the British Isles including a Black Angus prime rib.

For the first time, The Coal Shed will have a dedicated bar.

The bar will seat up to 25 guests across stools and tables, with a dedicated menu featuring small bites and sharing plates.

Inspired by the best bars in London, the cocktail menu “reimagines” classic drinks with contemporary flavours and techniques.

The original brickwork and features of the site have been carefully restored, complemented by blackened and charred wood alongside softer upholstery.

Throughout the venue, terracotta tiling, leather seating, fresh foliage and green accents will create a “relaxed and warm” environment where the food is the focus.

The new site will have a significantly larger seating capacity - one of the largest in Brighton -spanning across five distinct dining areas including the grand dining room, bar and three private dining rooms.

One private dining space - which seats 26 people – will act as an event space with its own bar, bespoke menus, private entrance, dedicated sound system and serving team.

The existing Coal Shed restaurant will serve diners for the last time on September 1.
