An inflatable with four children on board capsized on one of the hottest days of the year.

Eastbourne RNLI said it was called by Solent Coastguard shortly before 4pm on Saturday after children were spotted in the water without lifejackets near Holywell beach.

They had previously been on an inflatable toy which had fallen upside down.

Before the lifeboat launched from the station, the coastguard received reports that the children were safe and out of the water.

Coastguard teams headed to the scene to assist the lifeguards in checking all the children involved in the incident were okay.

No injuries have been reported.

A spokesman for Eastbourne RNLI said: "If you are going to the beach this summer, keep an eye on weather conditions and don’t use inflatables that aren’t designed for use in the sea."

People have been urged to call the coastguard in emergencies by dialling 999.

Parents have also been reminded to supervise children at all times on the beach.

This important reminder was reissued after over 40 children were reported missing on West Wittering beach on Sunday.

Selsey Coastguard Rescue Teams said all children were found safely and reunited with their families.
