Councils in Sussex received hundreds of complaints about dog fouling last year.

There have been more than 63,000 complaints of dog poo reported in the last 12-month period across the UK, research from dog supplement company Vitasure shows, up from just over 56,000 the year before.

The figures also showed the number of fixed penalty notices handed out to offenders.

The worst areas for dog poo in Sussex

Arun District Council saw the most complaints in Sussex last year, receiving 202 about dog poo on public land in 2023-24. Six fixed penalty notices were issued in 2023-24, while 32 were issued the year before.

Hastings Borough Council received 103 complaints about dog poo on public land in 2023-24 and 58 in public the previous year. No fixed penalty notices were issued, according to the data.

Adur and Worthing Councils received 102 complaints about dog poo on public land and 20 in private areas in 2023-24. The previous year there were 84 complaints regarding public areas and 12 regarding private areas. No fixed penalty notices were issued, according to the data.

Horsham District Council received 63 complaints about dog poo on public land in 2023-24 and 80 in public the previous year. No fixed penalty notices were issued, according to the data.

Mid Sussex District Council received 32 complaints about dog poo on public land in 2023-24 and 33 in public the previous year. No fixed penalty notices were issued, according to the data.

Sussex areas with less than 30 dog poo complaints

Wealden District Council received 30 complaints about dog poo on public land in 2023-24 and 25 in public the previous year. No fixed penalty notices were issued, according to the data.

Chichester District Council received 29 complaints about dog poo on public land in 2023-24 and 35 in public the previous year. The council also received nine complaints about dog poo in private areas in 2023-24 and 13 the year before. No fixed penalty notices were issued, according to the data.

Lewes and Eastbourne councils had 17 complaints about dog poo on public land in 2023-24 and 18 in public the previous year. No fixed penalty notices were issued, according to the data.

Brighton and Hove City Council saw one complaint in a public place in 2023 to 2024. The previous year saw two complaints in public areas and one on private property. Four fixed penalty notices were issued 2023-24 and two were issued the year before.

Rother District Council received no complaints regarding poo in public and private places in 2023 to 2024 although there was one complaint about poo in a public place and another in a private place the previous year. There were four fixed penalty notices issued in 2023- 2024 and two the previous year.
