A large empty unit on the high street will be taken over by a lifestyle store.

Furniture and interiors brand Habitat left the space at 23 to 25 North Street, Brighton, last June and it has since been empty, besides periodically being used as a gallery to showcase artwork.

The unit will be filled by lifestyle store Oliver Bonas which is upsizing from its existing store just four doors down in the same street.

Both units are part of the Hanningtons Estate where Oliver Bonas first opened in 2019, when it moved from its smaller Bond Street store.

Oliver Bonas has now signed a ten-year lease on the new site, which, at 6,000 square feet over two floors, is more than double the size of its current space.

It is set to open later this summer.

The unit, next to Watches of Switzerland has been dubbed “one of the main entrances into Brighton’s Lanes” thanks to its proximity to Meeting House Lane.

Claire Yeadon, asset manager at Redevco, said: “Since acquiring the Hanningtons Estate in 2015, Redveco has invested heavily in the infrastructure, design and configuration of the shops on North Street.

“We have attracted major brands such as Joe and the Juice, Watches of Switzerland, Hotel Chocolat, Lululemon and more.

“We’re delighted that Oliver Bonas has thrived in this location and is more than doubling its space. Being able to accommodate upsizes within the portfolio is enormously satisfying.

“Every unit within Hanningtons is either occupied or under offer, which is testament to the strength of the location and its growth as Brighton’s new retail and cultural quarter. We have welcomed, incubated and supported the growth of small independent local businesses such as Stanley Road Store, as well as working with major high street brands to meet their growing and changing needs.”
