When Deliveroo got in contact to say that they would send me a prawn cracker the size of a plate, I was thinking what you were, just another PR gimmick and that it would probably just be a slightly bigger cracker.

Oh how wrong was I! To my astonishment the very next day I got quite a large box addressed to the office and as I slowly unravelled the neatly packaged creation, a vacuum sealed cracker the size of my own head appeared.

My colleagues and I marvelled at the size of it, we all said that same thing ‘Surely it’s just a bit of naan bread’. No, it was not. It genuinely was a thick prawn cracker that could bear the weight of a curry sitting on top of it without cracking.

The plate-sized prawn cracker was part of a limited-edition collaboration with Giggling Squid in ten different branches from Wednesday, 24th until the stock runs out for just 99p.

The idea behind it was to be rid of the usual and useful spoons and plates, and just plop your dishes on to the plate-size prawn cracker and break bits off to dip at your heart's content!

Deliveroo were kind enough to send us some vouchers so that I could try out some of the many Thai dishes on offer – The closest one to me is the Market Street branch in The Lanes. They sit at a comfortable 4.5/5 rating with over 500 positive reviews, and I can understand why.

The order consisted of the feasting set (£15.65) which consisted of a green chicken curry, chicken satay side, mixed vegetable stir fry and jasmine rice. An extra salt and pepper squid side (£9.40) and a veggie set (£13.85) which consisted of a vegetable green curry, stir fry vegetables, spring rolls and jasmine rice.

Though I think the prices were quite dear for the portion sizes, the quality of the food was absolutely exquisite. The green curries exploded with flavour having just the right amount of spice and kick to them – especially when they sat on top of the prawn cracker, a revolutionary way to enjoy the delicacy. The jasmine rice was succulent and tasteful on its own, each side dish was done just right and could be enjoyed as meals on their own. Especially the salt and pepper squid.

Though the plate-sized prawn cracker was supposed to be the star of the show, I found myself resorting to the usual habits of eating with utensils, mixing the curry with rice in spoonfuls.

A plate-sized prawn cracker may not be what you thought you wanted with your Thai cuisine, but it serves as a great and delicious party conversation starter.
