A person had to be rescued after becoming stuck in the mud at a popular beauty spot.

Selsey Coastguard Rescue Team said they were called out shortly after 4pm on Monday to reports of a person stuck at Snowhill Creek, West Wittering.

Two mud technicians were called to the scene to help the casualty, who was uninjured, and use special equipment to winch them back to the shore.

A spokesman for Selsey Coastguard Rescue Team said: "If you get stuck in mud along the coast dial 999 and ask for the coastguard straight away.

"Mud sticks so stop others from trying to help you on the mud as they could become stuck too, instead get them to call for help.

"In an emergency out at sea, on the beach or along the coast, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard."
