Three restaurants in Brighton and Hove are among the best 100 in the country.

The Good Food Guide has included Palmito and Fourth and Church, both in Hove, and Med, Brighton, in its top 100 restaurant list.

Mediterranean restaurant Med, in Little East Street, also scooped the award for best local restaurant in the South East.

Co-founders Jack Southan and Will Dennard describe the restaurant as providing "modern European sharing plates with a playful twist".

"Dishes move with the seasons – so the freshest produce will always make an appearance, both on your plates and in the ever-changing seasonal cocktails," they wrote on the Med website.

"Wine lovers will enjoy the extensive and carefully curated wine list, which offers more than 60 bottles, including some beautiful natural and low intervention wines and plenty of by-the-glass options."

The Good Food Guide's list was determined after inspectors visited restaurants nominated by foodies across the country.

An “unprecedented” 60,000 votes were cast this year by people championing their local establishments.

Modern British restaurant Fourth Church and South American and South Asian-inspired Palmito, in Western Road, also featured in the guide last year.

Fourth and Church, in Church Road, was opened by chef Sam Pryor and Paul Morgan in 2015.

The pair met in the 90s while working at Brighton restaurant Terre a Terre.

Bosses at Palmito describe the restaurant as "A tiny kitchen with a daily menu using seasonal local ingredients and far-flung flavours.

"Simple and eclectic open-fire cooking with a handpicked selection of wines and Latin-inspired cocktails."

The Good Food Guide, dubbed the “restaurant review bible” compiles the annual list best restaurants list to celebrate the very best of British dining and champions independent restaurants from Scotland to Cornwall, Norfolk to North Wales.

Bavette in Horsforth, Leeds, was crowned Britain’s best local restaurant overall.
