Repair works on a beach began right at the start of the school summer holidays.

Worthing Borough Council said it currently has contractors along Worthing Beach to repair three damaged groynes.

Work is currently under way on the groyne opposite New Parade, with the two opposite Newport Mews and Brougham Road set to be repaired in the coming weeks.

A spokesman for Worthing Borough Council said: "We are funding the work and each repair is expected to take a week to complete.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the current works along our coastline."

The council also confirmed it is in partnership with the Environment Agency to finalise plans for a new substantial coastal defence project in the town.

This defence would be in place between Seaview Road and Brooklands Park in Worthing to provide coastal protection for a further 10 years.

No further details have been released at this time about this upcoming project.
