Caravans at a village green have finally been moved on... only for a camp to appear at a football pitch just over one mile away.

Police and West Sussex County Council issued the group a final warning to leave Goring Gap, where they had set up since July 16, before 10am today.

The caravans all packed up and left the site but then a new camp was seen only 1.2 miles away at football pitches north of Goring.

The council said on Friday it had already served them with a notice requiring them to leave the land.

A spokesman added: "All have been served with a notice requiring them to vacate the land.”

"Should they fail to do so, court proceedings will commence. We will continue to monitor the site together with Sussex Police.”

Concerns about fly tipping were raised at the Goring Gap encampment just one month ago, in June.
