A seagull was injured when it got a fishing hook stuck in its beak.

East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance service said the gull was found with the hook through its nostril and the line wrapped around its legs.

It is now being treated at the rescue centre in Whitesmith, near Lewes, and is expected to make a full recovery.

A spokesman from the service said: "Having only recently fledged this poor gull got themselves into trouble with a fishing hook through their nostril and the line and weight wrapped around their legs.

"Now on treatment for the injuries we are hopeful this one will make a full recovery and will be given their second chance back to start exploring the wild before too long."

Adam Grogan, RSPCA head of wildlife, has issued warnings in the past about anglers leaving litter.

He said: "Litter presents a huge and growing issue for wildlife.

"Animals may eat items of litter that have been dropped on the floor, become trapped inside bottles, entangled in plastic bags or snagged fishing line, or cut themselves on sharp glass or hooks."
