A man's drink was allegedly spiked and then he was assaulted outside a shop.

Sussex Police have arrested a 40-year-old man over the incident, which is reported to have happened in Western Road, Brighton, near Clarence Square, on June 27, between 7pm and 8pm.

The man, from Brighton, was arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment, administering a noxious substance, and assault. He has since been bailed while enquiries continue.

A force spokesman said: “There are believed to have been many witnesses to the incident, and we urge anyone who saw what happened or has footage of the area to contact police.
