A person was rescued from the base of cliffs by the RNLI.
Eastbourne lifeboat was launched after a member of the public saw someone getting cut off by the tide near the Belle Tout Lighthouse at Beachy Head.
Three crew members helped the person get on board and took them to Birling Gap where coastguard rescue officers were waiting.

Eastbourne RNLI has now reminded people to always check the tide times by using tide timetables or prediction apps like AnyTide.
It said people should seek advice if they are lost and make sure they have enough time to get back and should carry a phone so they can call for help.
A spokesman for Eastbourne RNLI said: "Call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard if you are in danger or you see someone in danger of being cut off by the tide.
"Tell someone else where you’re going and when you’ll be back. They can raise the alarm with the coastguard by calling 999 or 112 if you are overdue."
