A spokesman for the police force said: "We have received several reports where vehicle registration number plates have been stolen.

"Pop down to Worthing Police Station in Chatsworth Road to pick up your free theft-resistant number plate screws.

"Stock is limited and will be given out on a first come, first served basis."

The screws deter thieves who are often stealing number plates to hide the identity of stolen cars.

Sussex Police have also given advice on other ways people can keep vehicles safe, which includes installing a tracker, fitting alarms and locking all the doors.
