Vulnerable residents have been warned they could be prone to health problems as a mini heatwave is set to hit Sussex.

The UK Health Security Agency has issued a yellow heat-health alert across the South East as temperatures are set to reach up to 29C in Sussex by Friday afternoon.

The yellow alert is set to start from 5pm on Thursday, July 18, and end at 11pm on July 20.

The UKHSA say that “minor impacts” are expected across the health and social care sector, adding that there will be an “increased use of healthcare services by the vulnerable population”.

It added that there would also be an “increase in the risk of mortality amongst vulnerable individuals and increased potential for indoor environments to become very warm”.

Parts of Brighton, Hastings and Crawley are expected to see temperatures hit as high as 29 degrees on Friday, according to the Met Office.

But high temperatures could be short-lived and come back down over the weekend.

According to the Met Office, in Brighton temperatures will climb to 25 degrees on Thursday before peaking at a sweltering 27 degrees on Friday afternoon.
