A town council has called for traffic calming measures after speeding hotspots were identified.

Selsey Town Council is drawing attention to areas of the town where speeding is a common offence.

The council reported on social media that last week the Selsey Speedwatch team recorded 23 offenders on Manor Road, with 12 reaching speeds of 51mph on the 30mph road.

Six offenders were also caught speeding on High Street, reaching speeds of 38mph.

In a post on Facebook, Selsey Town Council said: “We are in discussion with West Sussex County Council about the possibility of traffic calming measures on both these roads as well as Chichester Road. “In the meantime, please watch your speed and slow down.”

People took to the comment section of the post to share their own frustrations regarding the roads in the area.

Mary O’Grady said: “We need traffic wardens, it’s ridiculous how drivers think they can park where they like.

“It’s urgent, before someone is killed or seriously injured on a pedestrian crossing because the view is blocked.”

Shaun Ledger wrote: “We need someone to be slapping parking tickets on people who park on double yellow lines and tell people with a disabled badge you can’t park in a loading bay outside the Boots chemist.”
