A ‘vulnerable’ person was rescued from the water near a pier by the RNLI.
The RNLI, HM Coastguard and emergency services were in attendance at the scene near the West Pier, Brighton at approximately 3.15pm on Thursday.
Shoreham RNLI’s lifeboat was launched and took the person, who they described as "vulnerable", ashore where they were looked after by the ambulance service.
Shoreham RNLI said in a post on Facebook: “If you see someone in difficulty in the water, please phone 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
A spokesman for HM Coastguard said: “At around 3.15pm , HM Coastguard Rescue Teams from Shoreham and Newhaven, RNLI Shoreham Lifeboat, and lifeguards from RNLI Brighton, responded to an incident at West Pier in Brighton.
“Sussex Police and South East Coast Ambulance service (Secamb) were also in attendance.”
A spokeswoman for Secamb said: “Secamb were called at approximately 3.20pm yesterday, July 11, to reports of a person in need of medical attention near the i360 in Brighton.
“Crews assessed and treated one person at the scene before discharging them from our care.”
