Public toilets are set to close for two months as refurbishment to revamp facilities begins next week.

Brighton and Hove City Council has announced a public toilet refurbishment programme which includes revamping the facilities at Goldstone Villas in Hove. It is set to begin on Tuesday and is expected to be closed until the end of September.

The refurbishment is part of a major programme across the city. The Goldstone Villas revamp will include raising the floor to ground level, introducing a disabled access toilet. Both men’s and women’s toilets will include family rooms, baby change facilities, and cubicles with grab rails.

Councillor Tim Rowkins, cabinet member for net zero and environmental services, said: “We have been working very hard over the last year or so to get our public toilets reopen and as many of them refurbished as possible.

"The Goldstone Villas toilets have needed an upgrade for a long time, so I’m really pleased to see this work starting.”

The upgrade will mean that, for the first time, they’ll be accessible to everyone.
