The funeral arrangements for a beloved ex-councillor have been confirmed as more friends and colleagues pay tribute to him.
Adrian Morris, a former Labour councillor for Brighton's Queen’s Park ward between 2015 and 2019, died at the age of 79.
Tributes to his “flamboyant” character poured in from council colleagues and friends, including from former mayor Jackie O’Quinn.
Adrian’s funeral is due to take place on Monday, July 22, at Woodvale Crematorium at 3pm.
Luke Stranger, a Labour Party member, has joined the flood of tributes for the much-loved ex-councillor, who was his close friend for 14 years.
Luke, 28, said: “I first met Adrian aged 14 on my first Labour Party campaign in the St Peter’s North Laine by-election in 2010.
“His infectious energy, warmth and empathy for others and passion for Labour values was clear to see as he pounded the streets in his traditionally flamboyant dress wear.
“Adrian went on to be one of my closest and most trusted political comrades and friends throughout much of the last 14 years.
“I will forever cherish the many Brighton Prides we went to together and our many post-canvassing pub crawls.
“His gregarious and fun loving character forever lifted up those around him. He served our party and city with distinction and will forever be much loved and missed.”
Nancy Platts, former parliamentary candidate for Brighton Kemptown and former Leader of Brighton and Hove City Council, said: “We spent many happy hours campaigning together, he also spent many happy hours, drill in hand, fixing up shelves and organising the office.
“I used to come in first thing in the morning to see another shelf had gone up or a window had been fixed.
“He loved a bit of fancy dress and brought humour and joy to every part of the campaign."
Jack Fellows, former Labour Party campaign organiser, also shared his fond memories of Adrian.
He said: “Adrian in my mind was a pivotal figure in transforming the party as an activist, chair and councillor.
“He was devoted to Queen's Park. Him getting elected in 2015 was one of my proudest moments.
“He came alive at Pride, but he was still a big believer that Pride was still a protest.
“There is only one Adrian Morris. His funeral I am sure will be packed out the door.”
Fellow former councillors Daniel Chapman and Karen Barford, who served alongside Adrian in Queens Park ward, said: “Adrian was such a kind, approachable and lovely person.
“During our four years together as councillors for Queen’s Park we went through some difficult times but Adrian always made us feel better, he always saw the bright side in things and most importantly made us laugh a lot.”
