Sussex’s mystic meerkats have made their prediction for the Euros final – and have backed England to go all the way against Spain on Sunday.
Drusillas’ meerkats have been predicting each of England’s knockout games so far this summer, correctly guessing that the Three Lions would make it to the final in Berlin.
Now, the clairvoyant critters have had their say on who they think will lift the trophy come Sunday – and the answer is Gareth Southgate’s men.
The Alfriston zoo said that the indecision could indicate more extra time and penalties after England needed an added 30 minutes to beat Slovakia before beating Switzerland on penalties in the quarter finals.
They did manage to beat the Netherlands 2-1 in normal time in the semi final though, with Olly Watkins' last minute winner.
Despite going behind in every knockout stage game so far, England have still managed to reach their second final in as many Euros after falling short to Italy in 2021.
The meerkats make their predictions through a tried and tested method involving two buckets of nuts, peas, and sweetcorn – some of their favourite snacks. Each bucket has a team's flag on and are placed down before the meerkats are released and left to choose which bucket they would prefer to eat from.
The bucket surrounded by the most meerkats is then declared as their prediction for who will win.
Drusillas zoo section leader Jacinta Dawe said: “The mystic meerkats have done an amazing job with their forecasts so far this Euros and we’re keeping everything crossed that their final prediction comes true.
Jacinta continued: “Spain are the favourites, so I don’t think it’s surprising that the meerkats showed a lot of interest in their bucket too.
"But in the end, more meerkats settled on the England bucket, showing that they are sure it will be a victory for Gareth Southgate’s squad when the final whistle blows.”
England play Spain in the Euros final in Berlin on Sunday at 8pm.
