A man has been jailed after a woman who was raped recorded the ‘terrifying’ assault on her phone.

David Pacera, 42, was convicted of four serious sexual offences and has been jailed for seven years.

A woman reported that Pacera, of no fixed address, had raped and sexually assaulted her on January 3 at a property in Worthing.

The victim, who is automatically granted lifelong anonymity, was safeguarded and supported by specialist officers as an investigation was launched, Sussex Police said.

Pacera was arrested after the incident and charged with rape, attempted rape, digital penetration and sexual assault.

Chichester Crown Court heard audio recordings of the victim saying “no” multiple times during Pacera’s five-day trial, where he was subsequently found guilty on all counts on June 28.

He was jailed for seven years at Hove Crown Court on Friday, July 5, given an indefinite restraining order and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

Detective Constable Ellie Treagust praised the victim for helping to secure the conviction.

She said: “I would once again like to thank the victim for the incredible courage and determination she has shown to report this incident and support the investigation through to its conclusion.

“Without her resolve, aided by an audio recording made during the terrifying ordeal, we would not have been able to put a dangerous predator behind bars where he can cause no further harm to the public.”

Sussex Police have urged victims of sexual offending to report it to police online or via 101.

A force spokesman said: "Always dial 999 in an emergency. You will be believed, you will be supported and we will do everything we can to get you justice.
