A dramatic video has captured smoke billowing from a fire in allotments.

Flames towered above the plots at the back of Saunders Park near Lewes Road in Brighton and plumes of smoke rose from the site.

Three fire engines were called to the scene at around 10.30 this morning after receiving a report of a blaze in the allotments.

Smoke could be seen from across the city including in Hanover where the video was filmed from.

A spokeswoman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 10.29am to the allotments area at the rear of Saunders Recreation Park in Brighton.

"Three appliances attended and crews used a hose reel jet and half mask respirators when extinguishing the fire.”
