England are through to the semi-finals of the 2024 Euros after winning their quarter-final match against Switzerland on penalties yesterday (July 6).

After conceding, Bukayo Saka scored for England to make it all level at 1-1.

After full-time, the teams were still level and 30 minutes of extra time wasn’t enough to break the deadlock but England managed to take the win after five successful and impressive penalties.

Among those supporting the team in Germany was Prince William who described the game on X, formerly Twitter, as “nail biting to the very end”.

William, who is president of the FA, was in the stands at the Dusseldorf Arena watching the match and was seen cheering on England throughout the game.

He was seen out of his seat and punching the air after England equalised in the 80th minute, around five minutes after Switzerland scored the first goal.

In a personally-signed message on X, he said: “Nail biting to the very end. Well done @England! Semi-finals here we come! We believe. W.”

The newly appointed Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer also posted online to mark England’s win, saying: “Calm under pressure. Brilliant win @England.”

The semi-final match between England and the Netherlands will take place on Wednesday, July 10 at 8pm while the Spain v France match will start at the same time but a day earlier on Tuesday, July 9.

The final will be played on Sunday, July 14 at 8pm.
