A couple say their home has been blighted by abandoned cars and unsightly piles of rubbish left in a neighbouring property.

David and Gail Delivett said the bungalow in Willow Drive, Seaford, has rusty cars decaying in the driveway and rubbish dumped in the garden.

They said it makes the street look a mess and fear it will drag down the value of their house.

Now the couple say they have had enough of the nuisance and have called for Lewes District Council to take urgent action.

David, 71, said: “It makes me angry. People all stop and look at it. It will devalue our property.

“The garden is like a jungle now. Part of looking after your garden is being part of a community. When one person leaves theres like that it ruins it for everyone.”

David said he and his wife moved into Willow Drive in 2009 and the rusty cars were already at the property.

There are multiple rusting cars with crumpled bumpers and cracked windscreens left to decay in an overgrown driveway.

Rubbish is strewn all over the garden.

As the problems worsened David said he contacted Lewes District Council asking it to do something but claimed the authority had not taken any action.

The couple said they are afraid the rubbish could attract vermin and make things even worse. They said the area is unsightly and could have a detrimental effect on the value of their house.

A spokesman for Lewes District Council said: “Our planning enforcement officers have considered the amenity impacts of this site and the merits of formal enforcement action.

“We continue to monitor the condition of the site and are keeping formal action under review.”

It comes after The Argus previously reported that a homeowner would be charged £3,000 to clear an “eyesore” garden.

The junkyard garden, also in Seaford, was filled with rubble, discarded furniture and a car.
