On his Instagram, Piers wrote: "Congrats to Keir Starmer on becoming our new Prime Minister.

"When I interviewed him for Life Stories, I concluded he’s a good, decent, hard-working, self-made man who wants the best for his country. He’s also an Arsenal fan which augurs well. I wish him every success."

This comes after Piers, who grew up in Sussex and still owns a home in the county, urged everyone on Thursday to vote.

The ex-Good Morning Britain host shared a photograph of him outside a polling station in London with his ballot card.

He said: "Vote cast.  If you don’t vote, you have no right to moan, bleat, whine or chunter about the way this country is run. So, get down to your local polling station and vote."

Labour won a landslide General Election victory with over 400 seats across the UK in total.
