A lifeboat station volunteer is taking on a challenging triathlon this month to raise money for the RNLI.

Ben Saunders, 23, said he will be doing the Ironbourne middle-distance triathlon to raise funds for Eastbourne RNLI Lifeboat Station where he has helped out since June 2022.

All the funds raised will be used to help fund and maintain the team's life-saving equipment.

Ben said: "I have been a part of the team since June 2022 and have received continuous training on operating our two lifeboats.

"All of the work done by the RNLI is entirely funded by donations and without it we wouldn’t be able to carry out our lifesaving work."

So far £500 has been raised towards the £750 target.

The triathlon, which will be held in Eastbourne on July 14, will be the equivalent of the half Ironman challenge, with Ben set to swim, cycle and run a total of 70.3 miles.

Ben said: "This is no easy task and it will be an incredible challenge for myself. In doing so I hope to raise awareness of the work we do at Eastbourne and across the RNLI as a whole."
