The Big Butterfly Count event begins next week.

People living in Sussex are encouraged to take part in the count between July 12 and August 4.

Arun District Council said people simply need to find a spot and record the species of butterflies and moths they can see in 15 minutes.

A council spokesman said: "If you are looking for free activities, why not get the kids involved with the Big Butterfly Count? Between July 12 and August 4 choose a place to spot butterflies and moths.

"See what you can find whilst visiting our local beaches, parks, and gardens - all you need to do is watch for 15 minutes, then record which species you see."

The count, which takes place nationwide, aims to help track the number of butterflies in certain areas to aid future conservation work.
