A van crashed into a barrier at a level crossing.
The barrier at the Roundstone crossing in East Preston had to remain down for several hours as engineers dealt with the incident following the crash at 10am this morning.
There were delays to train services as a result.
A spokesman for Southern said: “The nearby signaller reported at about 10.20M this morning that a van had struck and damaged a barrier at the Roundstone crossing in East Preston.
“The barrier had to be kept down for about three hours while Network Rail engineers delivered and installed a replacement and we're sorry for the inconvenience to road users.
“We're also sorry for the minor disruption to train services and encourage any customer whose journey was delayed by 15 minutes or more to claim Delay Repay compensation using the Southern website."
