A city centre road has reopened after a four day closure.

Western Road in Brighton was closed on Monday outside Churchill Square for roadworks to take place.

The closure was organised by Brighton and Hove City Council as part of the Western Road Scheme to improve the quality of the road for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.

The closure was in place from the junction with Regent Hill to the Dyke Road junction.

During this time, Churchill Square bus stops were inaccessible, with traffic being diverted up Dyke Road and through Seven Dials.

Traffic conditions on Western Road are now back to normal after the road reopened on Thursday.

A spokesman for the council said: "Our improvements to Western Road are designed to make the street a more attractive place to shop and spend time in.

"It will also make it easier for people travelling through and allow us to complete essential maintenance."
