Junior doctors' strikes are under way from today.

People across the county have been urged to use NHS services carefully to help the health service deal with demand during the strike action, which is set to end at 7am on Tuesday.

Until then, non-urgent hospital procedures and appointments could be rescheduled, however patients will be informed of this.

If patients do not hear anything, they should attend appointments as normal.

The NHS has also warned that the warm weather and Euro tournament could mean that health services are busier than usual.

A spokesman for NHS Sussex said: "Please help us help you by using services wisely."

University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust said it is working hard to make sure enough staff are available during this period.

A trust spokesman said: "We will only reschedule appointments and procedures where necessary and will re-book immediately, where possible.

"Regardless of any strike action taking place, it is really important that patients who need urgent medical care continue to come forward as normal, especially in emergency and serious life-threatening cases when someone is seriously ill or injured, or their life is at risk."
