A pub that has been closed for seven years is now looking for a new owner.

The Trevor Arms in Glynde village, near Lewes, opposite the railway station, has been put up for a lease price of £45,000 per year.

The drinking establishment, which has been closed since 2017, was originally built in 1845 by John Harvey.

The location was initially chosen by Harvey in anticipation of the opening of the railway that same year.

For the first 166 years since opening, the pub was associated with Harvey's brewery.

From 2011 onwards it was then run as a free house before its sudden and unexpected closure seven years ago.

Nick Jones of Glynde Estates said: "The Trevor Arms very much sits within the core of Glynde village which is predominately owned by Glynde Estates.

"This is an exciting opportunity to re-energise, develop and operate this important building in the heart of our community and a beautiful part of the South Downs National Park.

"Glynde Estates is a long-term business, and we hope to establish a similarly long-term relationship with an operator who can make this a successful business that integrates with and enhances our special community."

The property has now been brought to market by property firm Fleurets.

Divisional director of Fleurets South, Nick Earee, said: "The Trevor Arms is located in a highly desirable historic village with character trading areas and timber floors.

"It offers spacious accommodation with a large enclosed garden, this really presents a very exciting opportunity."

Before its closure, the pub had a number of good reviews.

On Yelp, one customer wrote: "The Trevor Arms pub is at the other end of the village, just past the railway station (which has an hourly service to/from Lewes, Eastbourne and Brighton).

"A large Victorian building, the interior is very traditionally decorated, and very spacious - there are four rooms, including a restaurant area.

"It has a huge garden area, with tables and seating, as well as space for picnics, and is great for kids to run around and burn off their energy."

Another customer said: "Really nice place to have a quiet lunch when out for drive.

"I like my old Lewes for some good pub/grub, but The Trevor was a nice discovery for us."
