A man accused of murdering a dad has appeared in court for the first time.

Kieran Egan, 30, of Baldmoor Lake Road in Birmingham, was arrested on Thursday after a man died following a reported assault in The Dolphin and Anchor pub in West Street, Chichester.

The incident, which happened at around 11pm, saw 57-year-old David Hallatt, from South Yorkshire, pronounced dead at the scene.

Egan was arrested at the scene by Sussex Police and charged with murder.

He appeared at Lewes Crown Court today and did not enter a plea.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear in court again in August.

A 42-year-old man from County Durham was arrested on suspicion of affray after the incident and has been released on conditional bail.

A third man suspected of affray has been identified and is still at large.
