Tributes have been paid to a father who died outside a pub on a night out with work friends.

David Hallatt, 57, died outside The Dolphin and Anchor pub in Chichester following an incident.

The South Yorkshire man suffered serious head injuries following a reported assault at the Wetherspoons pub in West Street on the evening of Thursday, June 20.

A murder investigation was subsequently launched.

David’s family have paid tribute to him. They said: “David was so violently taken from us. He was married for 25 years with two young daughters, aged 20 and 22.

“He lived for his family and he loved his work as a tiler travelling the country.

"He played the electric guitar, and was an avid football and rock music fan.

“Forever in our broken hearts, Sadie (wife), and Rosie and Sally (daughters).”

The incident occurred at approximately 11pm and despite efforts from police and paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

West Street was cordoned off by police and remained closed the following day as black tents were visible outside of the pub.

Buses and traffic were also diverted.

Kieran Egan, 30, of Baldmoor Lake Road in Birmingham, was arrested at the scene and charged with murder.

He appeared at Crawley Magistrate’s Court on Monday, June 24, and has been remanded in custody.

This morning he appeared at Lewes Crown Court.

A 42-year-old man from County Durham was arrested on suspicion of affray and has been released on conditional bail.

A third man suspected of affray has been identified but remains at large.
