People have been warned after England flags were painted on roundabouts.

Shoreham and Southwick residents woke up on Thursday to find a series of mini-roundabouts with red lines painted across them to resemble the St George's flag.

The lines were believed to have been painted in the early hours of the morning, the same day as England faced their second game in the Euro 2024 tournament.

Since then, West Sussex County Council - which is responsible for the roads - has warned people not to do this for safety reasons.

The council also said it will cost money for them to return the roundabouts back to normal.

A West Sussex County Council spokesman said: “We know many people want to show support for their football teams but would warn against painting on the live carriageway: it is unsafe to do so, could cause a distraction for other road users and will result in public funds being used to reinstate the roundabouts.”

The roundabouts painted on include various ones in Middle Road, Shoreham, and Manor Hall Road in Southwick.

A roundabout outside The Amsterdam pub in Old Shoreham Road, Shoreham, also had red lines painted across it.
