Dog walkers say groups of children have terrorised a play park by setting fires and taking over the area.
Horrified Hangleton residents say Greenleas Park has been the target of rampant anti-social behaviour from youths setting fires and ruining the area for other park users.
Park users say they have reported their concerns to the police but feel that issues can only get worse as the school holidays hit.
A police spokeswoman said the force would be increasing patrols and engaging with the community in a bid to prevent repeated incidents.
One dog walker said: “Someone needs to keep an eye on the park. Last week I was told these kids set fire to the play area.
“Then last Friday I saw some kids running through the park shouting, ‘they’ve set a fire’. You could see smoke coming up through the trees.
“It’s dangerous and unacceptable. With the school holidays coming up it can only get worse.”
The dog walker, who wished to remain anonymous, said that multiple reports of anti-social behaviour had been sent to Sussex Police.
They added that on other occasions groups of children had taken over the play area in Greenleas forcing parents with young children to think twice about using the area.
A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: “Police are aware of recent reports of youths causing damage in the Greenleas Park area of Hangleton.
“As a result of the reports, increased patrols have been introduced in the surrounding area, as well as community engagement activity.
“Any concerns should be reported to police so that appropriate action can be taken. You can do this online, or by calling 101. Always dial 999 in an emergency.”
