Commuters have been experiencing delays due to a train hitting a tree on the railway.

Southern Rail reported that a train hit a tree this morning between Ford and Worthing, leaving the line towards Brighton blocked.

The incident was reported at 5.30am and resulted in delays of approximately 30 minutes.

The line was reopened at 6am.

To alleviate delays, train tickets are being accepted on Brighton and Hove Buses between Brighton and Shoreham.

The train that struck the tree has been taken out of service for safety checks.

Passengers can apply for compensation for unexpected delays of 15 minutes or more on the Southern Rail website.
