Old garage compounds are being demolished so new council homes can be built.
Adur District Council began removing the old garages at Daniel Close, Lancing, on Friday to make way for the nine new homes.
These will be a mix of seven two-bedroom and two three-bedroom houses.

The council said that once the site has been cleared and the foundations for the new homes have been prepared, the new houses will be built.
This will be through factory-built modules which reduce waste and minimises the disruption caused to nearby residents.
The council said that new homes will be highly insulated, making them energy efficient and less expensive for future tenants.
The homes will be given to people on the housing register.
A spokesman for Adur District Council said: "The project is part of our plans to replace our old garage compounds and under-used sites with extra homes that families in our district need in Sompting, Lancing, Shoreham, Southwick and Fishersgate. We’ll keep you updated during the work."
