A calf sparked a major rescue operation when it got stuck in an underground tank.
Firefighters had to set up a crane to lift the baby cow to safety at a farm in Slaugham Road in Staplefield near Haywards Heath.
It was covered in wet mud after getting stuck in the hole on Monday evening and a vet was on hand to make sure the five-month-old calf was OK during the rescue.
The Surrey Animal Rescue unit was also at the scene
A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: "A West Sussex fire officer and the Surrey Animal Rescue Unit attended.
"Water and animal rescue equipment, plus a crane/hoist, were used in getting the calf to a place of safety."
