Sussex beach with chalets among the UK's best with white sands

West Wittering Beach near Chichester was included on a list from The Telegraph which also featured the likes of Holkham Beach in Norfolk and Kynance Cove in Cornwall.

Describing the list, they wrote: "Aquamarine waters, bone-white sands, bleached driftwood… the stuff of holiday brochures and Instagram posts, and designed to lure us to foreign and exotic idylls. But, hang on; why go abroad? 

"Look closer to home. Britain’s coastline may not offer the bath-warm temperatures and languid palm trees of, say, the Caribbean, but it has some startling beaches along its varied coastline. And they’re not always where you might think."

The Telegraph praised West Wittering Beach for its "soft, flat sands", shallow waters and how well-organised it was.

They wrote: "Okay, so it’s shading into gold, but the long stretch of West Wittering sands that curves round into Chichester Harbour is beach-perfect, with soft, flat sands and a photogenic row of colourful beach chalets.

"The water is clear and shallow – perfect for families – and, to stretch your legs, there’s a lovely walk to the dunes of East Head with views across the harbour to Hayling Island, inland to Chichester and the South Downs, and out to sea to the Isle of Wight.

"True, it’s a busy beach, but well-organised with lifeguards, loos, café, watersports hire and a large car park."

West Wittering Beach is also well-reviewed on Tripadvisor, with it having a score of 4/5 from 1,418 ratings.

One person shared: "Been there now for the 2nd time, it’s an absolutely fantastic beach. Beautiful location with amazing sea breeze and mostly fine sand. There’s an award-winning blue beach for humans only with lifeguards in the centre - but either side of that large dog-friendly beach section. Many dogs having fun taking advantage of that!"

Another shared: "Fantastic beach with amazing views and you can walk for miles with the dogs and loved ones. This is a south coast gem."

Meanwhile, another wrote: "Lovely beach, huge in fact, lots of walking and lovely cafe too. walked for miles with a friend, in the dunes and along the sandy beach. Pre-booked to save us not getting parked, always really busy and popular."
