Dozens of caravans have taken over a city centre park.
Over 20 cars and motorhomes are believed to have driven into Preston Park late on Wednesday evening, parking along the perimeter of the lower field.
Deckchairs and umbrellas were seen set up outside one of the caravans while dogs ran free along the side of the A23.
The Argus understands that the caravans began to arrive at Preston Park at around 10.45pm on Wednesday evening.
A spokesman for Brighton and Hove City Council said: “We are aware of the unauthorised encampment in Preston Park and our traveller liaison team will be visiting the site this morning alongside Sussex Police.
“Part of the visit will include a health and welfare assessment of households within the group and a discussion on next steps.
“We know Preston Park is incredibly popular with residents – particularly during the summer – and we will work with Sussex Police and the group to find a suitable resolution as soon as possible.”
Sussex Police have been approached for comment.
