People are supporting plans for a "much-needed" indoor food market.

Feast, owned by restaurateurs Kate and Ben O’Norum, submitted proposals to Chichester District Council for a new venture in North Street, Chichester.

Shear Architectural Design Ltd, representing Feast, said the venue would be an indoor food hall with space for 11 independent traders to serve inside, including seven hot food outlets and a selection of bars.

The plans also set out space for a boutique restaurant and micro-winery within the indoor food market, along with plenty of seating.

Since the plans were submitted, people living within the city have rushed to show their support.

Helen Marshall said: "What a fantastic concept to bring to the city.

"This development will enhance our evening and nighttime economy and bring a unique dining and leisure proposition to the city.

"It is much needed and most welcome. Feast will certainly be a valuable addition to our food and beverage retail landscape here in the centre of Chichester."

Stephen Lelliot, who lives nearby, said: "I think this will be a fantastic idea, Chichester truly needs something different and unique, somewhere for people to sit and be sociable, rather than a cramped chain coffee shop.

"Chichester needs to be more forthcoming and move with the times, we have to focus on what the next generation will need and benefit from.

"I think this will be a real talking point and will bring more people to our beautiful city."

Andrew Culverwell also shared his excitement for the plans.

He said: "I fully support this development. What a great idea, this is just what Chichester needs. I can't wait to visit."

Simon Allgrove, who grew up in the city and now lives in Southsea, said: "For someone like myself, who is originally from Chichester but no longer lives here, this would be a great reason to come back and visit my hometown from time to time.

"It looks like a great idea and I've seen similar businesses do really well in other cities."

A final decision on whether to approve the plans will be made by July 12.
